OK, Rick Steves says that Europeans dress 'stylish,' more so than Americans. I would agree with that, most definitely. Today on our Sunday walk-about I wanted to document what to wear in Greece. It was pretty cold today, so a lot of folks were wearing their stylish coats.
We started in the Koloniki neighborhood -
definitely more upscale. Loved this example of black tights
and short skirts that are very popular here...with heels, certainly.
These tights feature very cool polka-dots, which I love! |
Lots of women opt for the black tights or leggings with
short skirs like the bright blue one on the woman on the
left. The one on the right has a skirt on, as well. |
Greek men are very stylish, maybe even more than the women! Nicely groomed, always with fresh haircuts
and up-to-date styles. Even their jeans are not old and tired, but trendy. |
Lots of drape for women's styles - love the shawl and this dress with lots of soft fabric. |
Buying shoes must be the national pastime here in Greece,
because there are many, many shoe stores!
I loved these shoes, again with polka-dots, but most
stores carry a wide array of black or dark shoes and boots. |
this is a common sight: beautiful Greek woman with
envy-inducing hair, black leggings, knee-high black boots,
and a long, quilted outer coat. |
Here is another variation: black tights, short skirt,
longer coat with fur-edged hood, and shorty heel boots. |
Stylish men with great haircuts and trendy shoes. |
This couple may be European tourists (see the camera?),
but are still very trendy in their clothing choices. |
A rather rare blonde woman, and very stylish;
not leggings, but straight leg slacks and dressy flats.
She is missing a scarf, though..she may not be a local.. |
if not leggings and boots, then tight jeans (or jeggings) |
There seems to be one hairstyle for women here, and that is long hair with no bangs. There are very few
women with short hair - I'd say maybe 1 or 2 out of 20 women with short haircuts. I did see a cute gal at our restaurant
last night with a really cute haircut (very short), and customers were talking with her about it. It is rare. |
interesting shoe shot - boots for women and fancy sport-type shoes for men |
the other coat choice seems to be the puffy coat,
especially for younger people |
no, these jeans aren't worn out - they are supposed to look that way! Nice jackets, too. |
Greek women have awesome hair! |
even middle-aged people are stylish and put together |
you won't see anyone wearing pajama pants in public, but I liked these in a store window |
This is not odd to see women holding hands or linking arms while strolling along - it only means they are good friends,
or perhaps family (we Americans are so uptight about such things!) |
store display |
here is a couple of white coats, but most wear dark colors |
Now, doesn't that make you want to run out and buy some black leggings and tall boots? It does me!

I like what I see far better than the sloppiness that happens here. Although, I do feel kinda frumpy after seeing the stylishness there.
Thank you for publishing this - i I totally agree with your descriptions. Had forgotten that men are stylish too. (I've grown up and have been traveling to Greece).
The fashion trends in different places are different, but I really like the Greek dressing style, I think it is very fashionable.
Greek men's clothes are really fashionable.
I will be visiting Greece soon. Your blog might just help me in getting classy custom made overcoats & elegant clothing to beat the winter chill. My wife will definitely go on a shopping spree after seeing your blog. I loved the pictures & the detailed explanation of different clothing styles in Greece. Keep sharing such helpful posts.
