I am just going to tell you now that the Greek yogurt you excitedly buy in the US is NOT the real thing. Yeah...I know. You are going to tell me how much you like it, and how it is so much better than regular yogurt. Yep, I thought all those things, too, but not any more. We were told on good authority which to purchase, and that it was, in fact, so much better than what we get in the states. And, after following her advice, completely agree!
Greek yogurt that comes in a clay crock and Greek honey in a tube-like container - how handy! |
Real Greek yogurt is much thicker, and not watery (it does not create a pool of water after sitting in your fridge, really). It has a much more sour taste, which is absolutely delish with REAL Greek honey. Yes, this Greek honey doesn't taste like our honey, either! Not sure how to explain it except to say that it doesn't have that honey-bite/aftertaste...it is sweet, and soft, and oh-so-yummy with that real Greek yogurt. We chose to add a little granola. We have decided that this is the way to start the day, indeed!
this is making my mouth water just looking at it! |
Another cool thing in Athens are these street kiosks. They sell a bit of everything - from aspirin and cough drops to candy and souvenirs, to condoms and even wine - and they are all over. We got a good tip about the best chocolate to try, and again, our tipster was right on the mark! This is no Hersey's chocolate - this is smooth as silk, and makes you just sigh with pleasure once it hits your tongue. And this is from one who doesn't care for chocolate! Below Chuck is buying the milk chocolate variety...
yeah, the chocolate please...the one right next to the Durex condoms *choke* |
a very happy chocolate lover! |
