The Friday Farmer's Market

we started the day with sunshine and a yummy breeze

Our first exposure to the Friday Farmer's Market -
I've never seen so much fresh, beautiful produce anywhere!

everyone comes out to buy their fruit and veggies at the market - and why not? Its fabulous and cheap. Come early for the best selection, or come a bit prior to closing (3pm) and prices will be slashed even cheaper!

bring your best Greek language skills, though - most only speak a little English...
hand signals, smiles and nods work, and in a pinch, looking at the receipt will tell you how much to pay

I wish you could hear the sounds of the vendors bellowing out what they are selling and how good their produce is, the bargaining of the older women, the sound of small cart wheels and Greek speech everywhere

At first I was pretty intimidated at the thought of trying to purchase anything without knowing much Greek, but we did manage to come away with some treasure! We filled our market bags with a jar of incredible honey, apples, potatoes, fresh eggs, carrots, sun-dried  raisins, and a head of cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.

On our way back to our apartment, we stopped at a bakery to see if they had any gluten-free bread available. We ended up ordering some and went to pick it up later - it smelled divine!

so many varieties of baklavah - thinking of you, Lisa!

thought you'd like to see a receipt - cool, huh?
